Shattered

My heart is shattered broken into a million tiny pieces
Scattered on the floor as I gather them
Fingers bleed red drops into glittering chaos
Lives lost to hatred a city struggles
To forgive
A flag inflames danger comes
From within
We raised him we nurtured him his hatred
Is our own we are all guilty
As I mourn strangers dissect me tell me
Who I am what I think
My heart can be mended but
Nine pieces are missing
And home isn’t home any more

The ache and the shame and the puzzle are all evident in this excellent poem. Thanks for sharing.
